The PLAN
>1 - can you present the band?
The Plan got together
in Spring of '99. We played a few shows, our drummer
quit and then I went on tour for a few months with my other band.
I came back, we
got a new drummer, wrote a bunch of new songs, recorded a demo,
decided to go on
tour, pressed the demo as a proper CD, and then toured for three
months all over
Canada and the US. Since then, we've toured some more, made a
new record, and then
toured some more.
>2 - do you play in other band?
Yes, almost all
of us play in other bands - I play in North of America, Lance
has a band called Like A Child, and Mackenzie is always has a
bunch of things on the
go. Most recently he was in a band called The Break Up - I think
they've packed it
in, but I'm not entirely sure about that.
>3 - if yes, what could it bring into "the plan"?
I guess being
in other bands gives you an outlet for stuff that wouldn't be
really appropriate for The Plan. Also, most of us play other
instruments in our
other bands. I mostly play drums in North of America, Lance plays
guitar in Like a
Child, etc, etc... so that is kind of a benefit as well. Almost
all of my friends
are musicians, so it just kind of makes sense for us all to make
music together.
>4 - do you work with other musicians?
We don't have other people involved in the songwriting process, but we have had guest musicians playing things like trumpet, saxophone, upright bass, cello, and vibraphone on our records.
>5 - how can you describe your music?
2 guitars+bass+drums.
>6 - in europe
(particularly in france), nobody know "the plan", maybe
cause
>matlock records is not distributed (!). And in canada, do
you hear band from
>europa?
Hopefully, having
Rewika Records from Germany put out the new record in Europe
will help us out. As far as hearing about European bands in Canada,
there are
some that make it across, like Sunshine from the Czech Republic
and the Refused/
International Noise Conspiracy/Donuts posse from Sweden. I think
that band
Millencolin (sp?) are really big, but that's not really my thing
- I don't
think I've ever heard them. I have heard some really amazing
German bands because my other
band has toured there a few times (Jullander, Kleine Wohnen, Chandler,
The
Robocop Kraus). There's a band from Denmark called Barrahead
who are really
great. The only French bands I can think of (besides the obvious:
Gainsbourg,
Hardy, Brel) are Air and Prohibition. Oh yeah, and MC Solaar.
>7 - have you plan a tour in europa? and if yes, when?
Yes, we're planning
to come to Europe in the spring of 2002. I hope we will
be able to play some shows in France.
>8 - do you live on you own music? do you have to work?
We all have jobs
outside of rock music. Lance works at a car dealership, Dave
works at call centre, I work at a tutoring centre, Mackenzie just
finished taking
photos for a book a friend of his is writing on Food Not Bombs.
>9 - what's your influences?
Musically? We
are all into different kinds of stuff... nothing gets us more
excited to play a show than listening to James Brown, though.
>10 - a little anecdote for the end?
As far as anecdotes
go, most of our favorite ones involve our van breaking
down in one way or another. We were crossing the border between
Washington State and
British Columbia and our van overheated in the line. We had to
push it
across. Surprisingly, they let us through without any hassle.
